Conducting oral history interviews is an important part of CIFA’s work. In the past three decades, we have seen the emergence of numerous independent filmmakers, curators, producers, and critics. Today, while some are still working in this area, some are not; while most of them are still in China, some have joined the overseas diaspora. We strive to locate those who have contributed to the formation and development of Chinese independent film culture, listen to their stories, and record their journeys. This is also our journey: from Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guanzhou to Hong Kong, Taiwan, New York, Los Angeles…an ever-expanding list; from the city, the suburb, to the countryside…Our sincere thanks to all who accepted our interviews and spoke honestly in front of our cameras. Without your support, we could not carry on. We present some of interview photos here and will continue to update this space.
