As the first centralised depository of Chinese independent film and film culture in Europe, CIFA’s mission is to facilitate the preservation and development of Chinese independent film by:
* acquiring and preserving Chinese independent films, film footage, posters, still photographs, oral histories, film publications and other film culture-related material
* producing historical knowledge and safeguarding the cultural heritage of Chinese independent film culture for future generations through columns, the journal and other forms of academic and non-academic publications
* advocating for the use of Chinese independent films and oral histories as resources for researching and teaching the modern and contemporary China within Higher Education
* curating and organising screenings, exhibitions and discussions to enhance public understanding of China’s history, culture and society
* building bridges between Chinese independent filmmakers and industry stakeholders around the world
