Abstract
In this review I discuss Hu Jie’s 2016 film Songs From Maidichong. The review focuses on the film’s framing of develop ental logics and memories of development. It also attempts to contextualize Songs’ portrait of Christian devotion in relation to the role played by Christian iconography in earlier films by Hu Jie, exploring how Christian devotion within the film unsettles conventional logics of development.
