Synopsis
The 60s witnesses the quick demolition of an old temple followed by the erection of an opera theatre in Shijia village, Shannxi Province, northwest China. Soon after that, a local Qinqiang troupe with a group of banhu players came to this village, performing Qingqiang to the villagers there(a representative folk Chinese opera of Shannxi province)for many years. The powerful and passionate singing of Qingqiang brought together the lives of people there and the theatre stage, and the line between them becomes blurry.
Director biography
Zhang Huancai, male, farmer, born in 1960, enthusiast of rural records. Since 2005, I have made seven series of feature films of my village from 2006 to 2020, including a History of Village Drama, two feature films on village elections, and a 10-minute short film called An Annulled Election.
