Synopsis
In 1994, the city of Karamay in northwest China was the site of a horrific theatre fire which killed 300 children. The children were performing for state officials and were told to wait for these officials to exit the building before leaving. News of the disaster was censored in the Chinese media. The families of these children have yet to be allowed to publicly mourn their deaths.
Director biography
Xu Xin was born in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, in 1966. He is an independent documentary filmmaker based in Beijing and Nanjing. In his early years, he experimented with oil paintings and photography. His documentaries focus on marginalized communities in China.
