Synopsis

The film is also set in Tongling, Anhui province, at the 140-year-old Qingzhixiang ferry terminal, in 1998, when the ferry company to which it belonged was restructured as a joint-stock company, and when laid-off workers smashed the ferry and forced it to stop. In this film, Guo Xizhi chooses three families affected by the ferry suspension as "characters" and uses the camera to "focus on the daily lives of his subjects and their choices for their own survival".

 

Director biography

Guo Xizhi, born in 1965, in Tongling, Anhui Province, graduated from the Chinese Department of East China Normal University in 1990 with a Masters degree in literature and art. He has published several articles in journals such as Reading. He has worked in a TV station and now teaches at Shenzhen University. His works have been screened often in international and domestic film festivals, and won some awards, as have the student films he directed.
