A moving and human portrait of a group of unemployed and above all lonely men left behind when their wives moved to the city for work. These men work in the timber industry in the province of Heilongjiang, where deforestation has taken its toll. We see 46-year-old San Liangzi. Twelve years ago, he divorced his wife and lost his job. For ten years, he has had an eye on Wang Meizi, the only unmarried woman in the area. But the love is not mutual.
Yu Guangyi was born in 1961 in China's northeastern Heilongjiang Province. After graduating from the Chinese Academy of Art in Hangzhou, he worked for many years as a woodblock print artist. He began making independent documentary films in 2004. His first film was Mu Bang (Timber Gang).
